Using B, cast on 16 sts. Bind off.
Finishing
Sew petals together in pairs, then position one pair over the other in a cross formation and secure. Coil center into a tight spiral and sew base to the center. Using C, work a ring of straight stitches radiating from the flower center, then work French knots around the outer edge of the stitched ring. 1st row (RS) K1, ssk, * [k1, yo, k1] in next st, k2, s2kpo; repeat from * 4 times, k2, [k1, yo, k1] in next st, k2, k2tog, k1. Change to B.
2nd row P. Continuing with B, work 1st row again. Change to A, work 2nd and 1st rows. Change to B, work 2nd and 1st rows. Change to C, work 2nd and 1st rows.
Using crochet hook, continue with C. Bind off row St st in first st, ch 3, sl st in same st, * sl st in next st, ch 3, sl st in same st; repeat from * to end.
Fasten off.
Stem
Using D and double-pointed needles, cast on 4 sts.
