Interlaced Edge
Skill level: Intermediate
Make a foundation chain of the required length, or work row 1 directly into the item to be trimmed with right side facing. (multiple of 16 stitches + 1)
Row 1: 1 ch, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, *1 sc in each of next 7 ch, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in each of next 7 ch, 3 sc in next ch, rep from * to end, omitting 1 sc at end of last rep, turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 2 sc in first sc, *1 sc in each of next 7 sc, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 7 sc, 3 sc in next sc, rep from * to end omitting 1 sc at end of last rep.
Rep row 2 for required length.
Fasten off.

Zigzag Rib
Skill level: Easy
Twisting two stitches on both right-side and wrong-side rows makes a strong zigzag ridge. Method Cast on 4 sts.
1st row (RS) K 1, take right-hand needle to the back and k second st through the back of the loop, then k first st in the usual way, slip both sts off together, k 1.
2nd row K 1, with yarn to the front miss first st and p second st, then p first st, slip both sts off together, k 1.
Repeat 1st and 2nd rows.
Bind off.
